Sea Flower

Here I wanted to capture the strong midday rays penetrating the clear depths as our ancient feather star steadily made its way to the tip of the wire coral. This silhouette shot with a sunburst does not show the many vibrant colours they come in but their extended arms are very much a distinctive character. Commonly known as a crinoid, it is one of the most visible members of the reef creatures found here clinging to a whip or wire coral to gain the best vantage point to feed. Some have as many as 200 arms that they can also use to swim with, be only short distances.
